Although it’s only May, Halloween is a hot topic for Disney this week. Yesterday saw the release of dates and tickets for this year’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. The party happens on select dates from September through to the beginning of November in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
We visited Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last year for the first time and we had a ball! The atmosphere is electric and everyone is out to have a good time. We got to meet a whole host of characters including Lotso Bear, Jafar, Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. There were trick or treat stations set up around Magic Kingdom where grown ups and kids alike were invited to come and fill up their bags with candy, we saw the Headless Horseman and had the opportunity to join with various characters at their dance parties. The 7 Dwarves were out of their mine and ready to meet guests – something they don’t do very often!
The kids wore Halloween costumes but we decided to just wear our normal clothes as we didn’t think many adults would be in costume – we couldn’t have been more wrong! The adults had put as much, if not more, effort into their costumes as the kids. We had as much fun looking at people’s costumes as we did seeing the characters. There was a particularly impressive Alice and Mad Hatter who looked like they had just stepped off of a movie set. If you are thinking of attending the party but weren’t sure whether to wear a costume or not I would say go for it! (although please remember that Disney do not permit you to wear particularly frightening costumes – it is for families after all.)
One of our favourite things was getting to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the dark, it seemed so much better than in the daytime. But for us the best part of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was the Boo To You Parade and HalloWishes, the catchy “Boo To You” song lodges in your head and you find yourself humming it all the way back across Seven Seas Lagoon. The HalloWishes fireworks were out of this world – every time you thought they had finished they went on for a bit longer and took your breath away a little bit more.
