Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo

Back when I was researching for our last trip to Walt Disney World I heard the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique mentioned many times, I had a look at it on Disney’s website and ruled it out as I thought my daughter at 9 years old wouldn’t be interested – how wrong could I be?!

There are two Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques at WDW, one is in Magic Kingdom and the other is at Downtown Disney.  They provide a service whereby girls of all ages can have a makeover and be turned into a princess.  There are a variety of different priced packages available and my daughter chose the Crown Package at approximately $50.

Now I thought that she would be completely ‘over’ the whole having a makeover and dressing up like a princess but when she glimpsed the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in World of Disney at Downtown Disney she was intrigued!  She asked the Cast Member on the front desk if she could give her a little more information.  The Cast Member ran through each of the packages available and then said if we wanted to try to get a booking we needed to phone the Fairy Godmother and pointed us in the direction of a pink telephone!

I wasn’t holding out much hope of getting an appointment as I knew that the Boutique was often booked up months in advance, but a little bit of pixie dust must have come our way as we managed to get a slot for late morning of the last full day of our holiday at the Downtown Disney Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

On the day of our visit we arrived just ahead of time and were given a buzzer and asked if we wouldn’t mind waiting for a few minutes, so we had a wander around World of Disney and a little while later our buzzer went off to tell us it was time to go back.

The Boutique is a small area tucked into the corner of World of Disney, there were several thrones in front of mirrors and lots of girls having their makeovers done while their parents waited patiently for them.

The makeovers are done by Fairy Godmothers In Training and ours was called Natalie.  She was very lovely with a beautiful singing voice and a knowledge of Disney movies that would have impressed Walt himself!

She popped a cloak around Abby and asked her if she would mind taking a walk with her.  Abby was quite happy to oblige, especially when Natalie started calling out “make way, princess coming through!”  We followed Natalie to the very front of the shop where she pulled a curtain aside and said that Abby would be having her makeover done in the window seat – meaning that anyone walking past the shop would be able to see her.  Abby being the drama queen that she is absolutely loved this (I on the other hand would have been mortified to have all those people watching me!)  During her makeover many people stopped to watch and several told her how pretty she looked and Abby being Abby simply soaked all of this up and added it to her enjoyment.

Natalie asked Abby what sort of hair piece she would like and Abby chose the popstar extensions, she was then asked to sit on her throne with her back to the mirror so that she couldn’t see her makeover until the ‘big reveal’ at the end.

Throughout the makeover experience Natalie sang various Disney songs and did a little quiz for us as Harry was beginning to get a little fidgety towards the end.  We really felt like Natalie added to the whole experience and she made sure that Harry was included as much as possible.  The other person who we saw several times during the makeover was the PhotoPass photographer who ensured we had the whole experience captured on film.

After Abby’s hair was finished, her nails were painted and then she had her make-up done (we were a little worried as to how heavy the make-up would be but were pleasantly surprised.)

Finally she was given a sash to wear and then it was time for the big reveal.

Abby was delighted with the final results and she thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.  She asked Natalie to sign her autograph book, which she did and covered with pixie dust too!

Later that day we visited Chef Mickey’s for dinner and all of the Cast Members in the restaurant and those in the Contemporary shops and foyers all called out ‘Hello Princess’ to her, she literally floated around on cloud nine all day.

When it came time for bed she chose to keep her hair extensions in and even flew home the following day with them still in so that her grandparents could see them before she had to take them out.

Will she visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on her next trip?  I’m really not sure, but I know that even if she doesn’t it is one memory that she will hold in her heart forever.

For our next trip I would like to find an experience that is more suited to Harry – do you have any recommendations for a boys experience?

See ya real soon!

For Harry you can bring him to the Pirates League right next to Pirates of the Caribbean in the Magic Kingdom. The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique only does people ages 3-12 where the Pirates League does anyone 3 and up. So when Abby is over 12 years old she can be pirate empress, mermaid, or sport any of the “tough” pirate looks they offer.

I wish my daughter were still little! We never got to do this…anyone want to loan out their little girl so that I can take her to BBB? Haha
